The
report, if true, represents an utterly unfathomable discriminatory
behavior on the part of an educational institution. At a time when Israel
has been criticized for preventing students receiving Fulbright
Fellowships from studying abroad and has partially relented, Pakistanis
have found it acceptable to discriminate against its own citizens who
believe differently than the dominant group!
As an educationist who has time and again witnessed the strength that
people with a diversity of religious and national backgrounds bring to
educational institutions, I condemn such intolerant behavior. It is
simply immoral. And it is intellectually corrosive for any community of
scholars which must celebrate its diversity with a spirit of free
enquiry.
The reported expulsion is totally unacceptable by the global norms of
liberal education which stand for equality for all. The decision must be
reversed and responsible parties must be brought to task for their crime
against education.
Sincerely,
