Dear
Khalid sahib,
I know the
question is addressed to Zuberi sahib and of
course I am not writing in stead of or on his behalf, but I would like to
point out that Islam and democracy are not mutually exclusive entities. In
fact, I have made this point in some past discussions too.
Unfortunately,
your question has an intrinsic flaw leaning towards one of the many
possible answers to the question. The question assumes that there is an
incompatibility between Islam and democracy hence, a resolution is required.
The resolutions were built into the book when He appointed His vicegerents
on the earth.
In the
interest of neutrality, the question could have been rephrased as: Are
Islam and democracy compatible? The rephrased question removes the
ambiguity of the enquirer leaning to a specific direction and hence
unwittingly influencing the answer.
I will be
happy to discuss this and other points (of interest) in the proposed
seminar for which Ms. Hassan and I have agreed to speak.
Javed I.
