Dear Khalid
Thank you for your
kind comments. I feel privileged to be permitted to make postings. As a
newcomer, I was confused by the format of the website. I assumed that your
article "Humanity
at a Crossroads" was presented, perhaps as a speech, at the
seminar. That was my reason for commenting on aspects of it that I
disagreed with.
When I look now at the
introduction to the seminar, I read "The other half [of the world] is
fighting an economic war against imperialism." You ask me what I would
contribute to such a seminar. The problem for me, Khalid, is that I do not
for a moment accept this fundamental premise; I consider it nonsense. How
could I speak at a seminar at which all contributors appear to assume the
truth of something I reject?
I am not sure why you
are confused by this. In my postings, I have tried to explain my reasons in
as clear and detailed a manner as I can. First, that I do not accept that
Christian and Muslim fundamentalists are equal threats; secondly, that I
reject the idea that any nation has a "war economy"; thirdly,
that I do not believe in the existence of western imperialism in the modern
world (I have another posting to make on this issue, which should be
finished soon).
I am not seeking to be
the skunk at the picnic; I am just expressing my views as clearly as I can.
I don't necessarily expect everyone to agree with them, but they might at
least be food for thought. I get the impression that you are all secular
Muslims, but perhaps I have misunderstood the political makeup of the group
members. Are you all socialists, perhaps? But I don't know why a secular
Muslim would have to be a socialist.
Regards
Peter Joyce
