If I were a referee
in this match between two champions, Rafi Aamer Sahib and Javed Chaudry Sahib, my job would be quite easy. I know who exactly the
winner is.
But that's not the reason for this letter. The reason is the
inspiration from this match. Like many other discussions that took
place in this forum in the past, and many other discussions in other
forums, most intellectuals, get bogged down in theories, sciences,
social matters, histories, analyses', philosophies by this author
and that author. But almost always we, not deliberately, ignore a
very basic fundamental truth. That TRUTH is the basic human
character, which differs from one place to another. Such differences
are remarkably substantial. Therefore, I conclude
that the holy books notwithstanding, NOT ALL HUMANS ARE EQUAL.
Therefore, their conduct is not the same or equal. I'm quite sure
that this conclusion is not exclusive to me. Humans are not equal
physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually, morally,
democratically, health wise, and so on. Therefore, our actions, our
hopes, our thoughts, our visions, our philosophies must be
different. How come we ignore this simple fact is so badly?
Humans are easily fooled, and trainable. Bad propaganda and bad
education has succeeded in making us believe what the guys upstairs
preach. Democracy is no exception. Fancy speeches can make
dictatorships look like democracy, and democracy look like
dictatorship. We accept things eyes closed.
Our discussions almost always seem to assume that all humans must be
capable of adopting same behaviour, political, economical,
democratic, religious, what ever. My observation shows that this
does not happen in the world. Therefore, the above
conclusion.
Pakistan is not fit for the so-called democracy. At least, not in
the fore-seeable future. The democracy tree has not been planted
yet, as pointed out by Dr. M. Ahsan Khan Sahib. In fact, I believe
that humans are not fit for democracy. Some one might ask me what is
democracy to me? We can discuss that another time.
For Pakistan, Uncle Sam is the least one to be blamed. We ourselves
must be the first one to be blamed. Until when shall we keep holding
others responsible for our mistakes?
When Mr. Musharraf imposed the "second martial law", with some
exceptions, we all protested. I am that exception. In-spite of my
strong dislike for army rule, I believe that he is the least of the
evils. Is he dictator? Yes, he is. Who in the world is not? If we
must pick on dictators, then we must point fingers at all of them,
including the "greatest democracies" on the earth. Have not those
who are screaming democracy, democracy, seen who will be next in
Pakistan? Is she takes control, then we will be relieved from at
least one headache in life. That headache
is Pakistan.
Sincerely
Jawaid Chaudhry [Virk] |
