Letter to Prez. Obama.
Ms Gabriel:
Your concluding comment is fine. As to American
President speaking at his level, hopefully he took some responsibility
in making his claim. But are you a student of history?
While it will difficult to pick pieces in a
litany of your accusations against Muslims using history, foremost
question is who is behind that history, and thus to examine it
sincerely through different sources till drawn to a conclusion. More
than else, this is core value of history. I sympathize with Lebanon
including destruction of Hotel Phoenicia (I happened to be visiting
there in the sixties).
As to Muslim atrocities, what has happened in
Palestine, Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya, Kashmir is familiar story.
Freedom movements, albeit, political terrorism, started with Israel in
the region wanting to drive out the British. Premier Begin, a devout
Jew, was himself once tagged as a terrorist, while a latter day
moderate. Rubin and Saadat gave away their lives for peace. This is
human nature more than religion.
Muslims have lived in peace even in India with
Hindus. They were fair rulers wherever they went, letting their own
governors rule over their people. But indeed, they were also ruthless
towards the defectors. In Spain, they provided opportunities to the
Jews and Christians alike. Once settled, even the Christians joined
hands with them to fight against their own Christians because they
felt better protected by them.
In recent history, the Turkish Sultan offered
Jews full freedom to live with freedom in Palistine. He refused them a
state there, but latter offered them a country of their own, Slovakia,
a beautiful land rich of resources. Today, it has also been inducted
into EU. You mention Muslim colonialism, forgetting Western
colonialism till today. Ask the American about their long war of
Independence. Then, how Christine Europe lost forty million in second
world war at their own throats. Conflict is at heart of history
impelled by ideology and economics. What British almost simultaneously
did in India, Sri Lanka, and also in Israel in collusion with others,
is a saga of capitalism to date and a familiar topic.
While for your courage to be forthright, it would
to be fair to yourself and others alike to read, and read more to
learn enough about history.
Despite my desire for an extensive expose’, I
have gone far enough to
to address to your letter. Hopefully Mr. Obama as
also his advisors will be impressed by your history while it seems
that for now their preoccupation is with the current.
I respect your views, and may I wish you,
