I’m really not part of your group and while I appreciate some of your group’s postings, I have not felt compelled to respond. However, this letter from a Lebanese-American to Obama is something that evokes the memory of the Falangists of the 1980s and is very disturbing. The letter is Orientalist in its tone, is incorrect in its rendition of many purported “facts”, and is decidedly ideological in characterizing “Muslims” while muddying the waters in interpreting the Quran. It needs to be opposed.

 

No doubt that the militant Islamists also need to be opposed and resisted for their obscurantism and heinous treatment of people who have been so unfortunate as to come under their grasp (such as the people of Swat). However, one cannot sit in the lap of imperialism to wage a proxy war against them as this writer and some in our midst have done and continue to persist on their mission.
