Hi Anis
I understand the need for education and the
explorer has taken a wonderful step indeed to
help those in the mountains where even the
governments don’t pay heed to anyone. However
coming back to the main land for e.g. Punjab
where Madrassas are preferred – the reason is
not money, it is just the need for religious
education.
The common concept back home is that if your
child learns the Quran by heart Heaven is
promised for the parents. What they don’t get is
that 1- learning by heart also means
understanding what you are reading and not just
memorizing it like a parrot 2- The consequences
of sending the child to the madrassa where they
are beaten up like criminals for not being up to
par with the maulana’s standard. (The idea of
how this can create the child/student to love
this religion is beyond me) 3- they are cut off
from their academically same aged friends and if
not bright are never able to catch up with the
years that they have lost.
The public schools of Pakistan a far as I can
remember still had a monthly fee of Rs12 and
that can also be waived if the financial
position does not allow the parents to pay.
Further more there is no approach needed so
basic means of education is right there my
friend. SO the only thing that the schools can
do is to add on learning the Quran as an option
for those who want to do it properly and without
losing out on the precious school years. It will
definitely take longer but it is still much
better than what is happening right now.
Anyways, I am definitely going to look up the
book and again whatever I speak of is just my
opinion.
But it’s nice to see that someone cares
Regards,
Saba Farooq
