Dear Rashid Mughal sahib
I cannot restrain my admiration
of your review of the essay. Your fluidity of thought and analysis is
evident from the depth of your views. That ' the chasm between the physical
and metaphysical has baffled ....' is true for the past as well as the
future. This is because man is a thinking ' animal', perhaps a blend of the
two, physical and metaphysical. By virtue of his intellect he will continue
to probe in the realm of the imaginary, however, by virtue of his physical
animal self he will exhibit the physical or material traits, which include
loot, plunder, etc. The real test of his being human is to take a hold of
oneself and maintain a balance between mind, body and soul. This seems to
be the premise of all religious teachings. However, we have to take heed of
the sayings of great men and observe and practice reality. See what 'Ghalib' said in this regard.
Bus keh
dushwar hai her kaam ka aasaan hoona
Aadmi ko bhi maiyasar
naheen insaan hoona
Alas! Difficult is the way,
For any task to accomplish, with
ease.
For man too, is not certain to
become human,
Were he
even so to wish, or please.
Regards
Zia
