With due respect, Pervaiz Salahuddin sahib, that one of your
correspondent, Hinna Nasr, twists
the meaning of the verse on "modesty" to serve her own view point.
For your information, I reproduce the translation of the verse (sura
Al Nur, verse 31) by two authorities:
1. And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks
and guard their private parts, and display not their ornaments,
except those which are outside; and let them pull their kerchiefs
over their bosoms and not display their ornaments save to their
husbands and fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their
sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their
brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or what
their right hands possess, or their male attendants who are
incapable, or to children who do not note women's nakedness; and
that they beat not with their feet that their hidden ornaments may
be known;-but turn ye all repentant to God, O ye believers! haply ye
may prosper.

2. And tell the believing women to subdue their eyes, and maintain
their chastity. They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies,
except that which is necessary. They shall cover their chests, and
shall not relax this code in the presence of other than their
husbands, their fathers, the fathers of their husbands, their sons,
the sons of their husbands, their brothers, the sons of their
brothers, the sons of their sisters, other women, the male servants
or employees whose sexual drive has been nullified, or the children
who have not reached puberty. They shall not strike their feet when
they walk in order to shake and reveal certain details of their
bodies. All of you shall repent to GOD, O you believers, that you

The sura uses a word equivalent to "loose garment" rather than
"from higher point" or "veil" or "hijab."
In an other verse, the word "khimer" (meaning "a curtain") has been
used. However, nowhere the Arabic
word meaning "highest point" was used. Nevertheless, your
correspondent translates the verse as:
"Mohammad
tell your wives and daughters to cover themselves from the highest
point."
My question is: Is it now admissible for Muslims to lie about
(or twist) meanings of a "Koranic verse"
to support their viewpoint? How can one tolerates such mendacity?
