Press Release.
Pakistan Needs a New Educational System.
New York: The chairman of Political Study Circle New York Dr.Maqsood Jafri
addressing the meeting of the executive board of the PSC said we need
complete change in the educational system in Pakistan. He said in America
and Europe basic education is necessary and free up to grade 12. There is
one educational system. But unfortunately in Pakistan neither basic
education is compulsory nor it is free of cost. This is the reason our
illiteracy rate is higher than other countries. Had our parliamentarians got
basic education, the need of fake degrees would not have arisen. We must
make basic education compulsory and free of cost if we want to keep pace
with the modern world. Dr. Maqsood Jafri further stated that in Pakistan we
have three type of educational institutions. English medium, Urdu medium and
religious seminaries. English is the need of time. We can not ignore its'
scientific and international importance. It should be compulsory from the
very beginning in schools. There should be one curriculum in all educational
institutions. So far as the religious education is concerned it should be
compulsory up to BA level. A unanimous course acceptable to all sects be
prepared keeping in view the needs of the basic and universal principles of
Islam. Private Islamic education being imparted by the sectarian mosques
must be banned. The mosques should not be used for sectarian education,
religious extremism and terrorism. The Ministry of Religious Affairs should
nationalize all mosques and religious institution for the Muslim unity and
Islamic renaissance. Professors of Islamic Studies be appointed for leading
the prayers and to guide the younger generation. No sectarian teaching be
permitted in the mosques. Moderate and progressive Islamic ideals be
introduced in the public through these proferrors.Dr. Maqsood Jafri stressed
on the need of closing all sectarian education in Pakistan for the safety
and stability of the country. He appealed to the Prime Minister to take bold
steps in this regard and set an educational commission to make Pakistan
scientifically an advanced state eliminating religious extremism created by
Madrassa system. Pakistan should be steered in the light of the progressive
teachings if Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam. We do not need Mullahism. If
Mullahism is not controlled and contained , then there is a grim future of
Pakistan waiting ahead.
