Dear President Obama
As a great supporter
and admirer of your
energetic position
and efforts on
improving relations
between USA with the
Islamic world, I was
both heartened and
sad by your recent
statements
concerning the whole
proposed incident of
Quran burning in
Florida.
Let me first explain
why, I with a
non-practicing
Muslim background
felt disappointed
and hurt.
In your long press
conference on 10th
September, which CNN
reported, I saw you
saying; " Burning
Quran will
endanger our troops
and cause profound
damage to USA
reputation."
You also told ABC's
"Good Morning
America" in an
interview aired on
Thursday the 9th September
that Quran-Burning
‘Stunt’ is
‘Contrary’ to
American Values. You
explained your
position in these
words;
“And as a very
practical matter, I
just want him (The
pastor Jones) to
understand that this
stunt that he is
talking about
pulling, could
greatly endanger our
young men and women
who are in uniform,"
You went on to say
"Look, this is a
recruitment bonanza
for Al Qaida. You
could have serious
violence in places
like Pakistan and
Afghanistan. Jones'
plan, if carried
out, could serve as
an incentive for
terrorist-minded
individuals "to blow
themselves up" to
kill others.”
Of course as the
President and the
Commander-in –Chief
of USA, your duty is
the well being of
American troops and
personals. But as a
world leader, your
duty is also to tell
the American public
and those who have
anti-Islam
prejudices that
Quran burning is
sacrilegious and
will for ever
destroy the
relations with 1.7
billion Muslims in
the world.
In your speeches,
there was not a
single word of
sympathy towards the
feeling and emotions
of 25% of the world
population, which
happens to me Muslim
and for whom Quran
is sacred.
This insensitivity
towards the Islamic
world is not fair
and goes against the
concept of “Alliance
of Civilizations”.
Anyhow, your
soothing words at
the 9/11 memorial at
the Pentagon today,
that; “"We
Are Not and Never
Will Be at War With
Islam", are welcome
plaster on my and
millions of other
people’s scars.
My respectful
regards and wish
that you continue
the good work, you
stand for.
