Obama –The Reflection of a naturalist
Certain epochal events touch every soul in some way or another. The
recent elections in America
were one such event. Some people are impressed by the fact that an
Afro-American has fulfilled Martin Luther King’s ‘dream’. Some are jubilant
that it is the dawn of the post boomer generation. Some are joyous at the
extent of the impact of the event on the psyche of the American people as a
whole. tidylink@yahoo.com
It is a relaxing thought that at last it seems that reality is being
understood, accepted, and practiced in a society which has the greatest
impact on the world. That the Obama campaign was such a resounding success
is, mainly due to the fact that the man showed a cool realization and
acknowledgement of facts. He based his campaign on the simple principle of
natural laws, devoid of camouflaged ulterior human motives.
A cool study of the character of the man reveals his maturity beyond
his years. He kept a constant demeanour
throughout the campaign. He maintained a balance of mind in both situations
of stress and elation. Even towards
the end, when the opponents seemed to have lost their nerve and hurled
derogatory remarks at him, he did not fluster or loose his firm hold on the
methodology of cool, yet forceful retaliation. Obama showed a rare commonality with
greatness, by remaining completely involved in the details of the mission,
yet keeping detached from the anticipation of results of his actions.
Mr. Rashid Mughal, in his Post No. 10, has aptly phrased the change
by saying “An enormous revolution in the world is created because a
minority in themselves has changed. It’s called evolution”. If I may add
that in it evolution is the change which results from the cumulative effect
of all previous changes. It is
imperative to learn from previous events before a durable effect can be
hoped for in the future.
Dr. Khalid Sohail, in Post No. 16, has said, “It is a turning
point”…. And later on he says, “Obama has all the ingredients to become
part of 21st century mythology.” Now according to the nature of evolution
he will perhaps become so (a myth) only if he raises above all those
indications that Dr. Khalid Sohail then mentions in the subsequent lines of
his Post.
My own observation is the Obama, who has shown the qualities of
disciplining others and even
himself, attachment and self-detachment, Control and self- restraint and
leadership as well as subservience, will continue to progress if he keeps
the principle of realism in view all the time and does not fall into the
trap of self-aggrandisement
