What Mr. Anis Zuberi and Anjum Niaz have
written are correct. The tragedy is that we do
not give proper importance to our own
problems like that of Muslims killings
Muslims which we experienced in Bangladesh and
now in the NWFP and Tribal areas. Had we given
power to Mujib to rule Pakistan he would have
become more patriotic because power has been a
great weaknes of the Muslims. In Moghul rule
we see mostly Mulims fought and killed
Muslims. Babar and his Muslim army fought Ibrahim
Lodhi and his Muslim army to gain control of
Delhi while the non Muslims watched in dismay.
Mr. Bhutto who represented the power base of
Punjab, wanted power at any cost and he forced
Yahya Khan to prevent handing over power to
Mujib. Mr. Bhutto had even threatened the NA
members from West Pakistan not to go to Dhaka
for assembly session otherwise their legs will
be amputated. He wanted Mujib to drop his six
points and come to understanding with him
alone before assembly session. This was an unconstitional
demand. He even advanced the idea of holding
separate session of East and West Pakistani
assembly members. Even if it is supposed that
Mujib after assuming power would have taken
the steps to break Pakistan, then our West
Pakistan army located in East Pakistan could
have taken a military action which would be
welcomed and justified. The military action
taken resulted in killings of Muslims on both
sides and Bhutto said Pakistan has been saved.
We should see how Indira Ghandhi by
giving power to anti Indian Kashmiri Leader,
Shaikh Abdullah actually neutralised him.
Because her army was there to thwart any
attempt by Shaikh Abdullah if he proclaims
independence.
