Intolerance in the name of divinity is a common
trait in Islam. This is why even some scholars
are swift in denial when crucial issues,
historical or contemporary, are raised or
discussed. Many people think that the tragic
events of 1947 are a matter of the past and
therefore do not qualify for any further
verification. These views are not based on any
pragmatic thinking because the blunders of 1947
are still affecting millions in the Indian sub
continent. No thoughtful person can be oblivious
to this reality. The consequences of this
tragedy are affecting the people of Pakistan in
such a way that the very foundation of a state
is violently shaking. Now some people may think
that Allah will send His army of farishtas to
help this nation of Islam they are deadly wrong.
This beautiful piece of land would not have been
in this shape if the opium of faith was not used
to sustain it. Its not the fault of Islam that
democracy could not flourish in Pakistan, it’s
the fault of those who thought that Islam can
replace democracy. Islam is a medieval thought
process totally unaware of what democracy is.
The present unfortunate situation of Pakistan
can be explained like this.
When India and Pakistan both acquired atomic
weapons they started threatening each other.
This was stupid because none of them have the
ability to survive after a nuclear attack. As
soon as the euphoria was over they started to
become responsible and sober. But for Pakistan
her nuclear arsenal has become a curse because
of the unending cycle of Islamic extremism which
is threatening the very existence of the
country. Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is
definitely her own but its storage and safety
has become an issue for many others. This
foreign concern for other nation’s strategic
deterrents has valid grounds. Pakistan is
embroiled in a vicious religious violence and
its armed forces are not totally against this
scourge. There is a serious concern that part of
forces is soft on the extremists and they are
powerful enough to go by themselves. This is
making the nations struggle to eradicate the
extremists very difficult and dangerous. The
western nations led by the United States sees an
imminent danger to their security if these pro
extremist elements get an upper hand. India is
also not less concerned because the extremists
are a constant danger to herself as well. There
is no doubt that the United States and India
have made a strategic understanding in case of
an extremist takeover of Pakistan and its
nuclear weapons. The extremists led by Al-Qaeda
have a keen eye on Pakistan and its future. In
case of such eventuality Pakistan’s sovereignty
as a nation will definitely face an overwhelming
challenge from very powerful nations who will
use all options to safeguard their national
security. A poor and economically weak Pakistan
will not be able to withstand the weight of the
arms of the United States and India. Pakistan
will capitulate very fast and its disintegration
will start immediately. The dilemma is very
complex and crucial. Even if the people of
Pakistan agree to have a fundamentalist regime
in Islamabad, others will not allow it to
happen. It will be a lunacy to accept an
extremist regime in a nuclear powered nation.
This will endanger the security of the entire
globe. There will be a unanimity to launch a
well orchestrated military strike against
Pakistan which will not end soon till the
thereat is over. This will result in sure
disintegration to make it weaker and manageable.
This will be a unique situation that a nuclear
powered nation could not use its powers to
protect itself.
