Dr Abdus Salam and his love for the country that disowned him

Family of the Heart - DIALOGUE & DISCUSSIONS

Dear Pervaiz

Thank you for the article about our distinguished scientist and the first Muslim Laureate. I wish to add that schoralship trust was established in Jhang, the town of Dr. Salam's family roots. Also small observation about his address in London; it was in Putney, London SW15 not SW18. I would hesitate to give out his complete address on open sites from where some bigoted individuals could take  down and misuse it.  I wish to express my gratitude to Mr Zafar Chaudhry for his brief but informative article in honour of a rare legend who has been undervalued by his country of birth for which he had high aspirations.

I was fortunate enough to visit his home as a child with my mother in the 60's and as a youngster in the 70's.  Mr. Zafar Chaudhry desribes his room very accurately.  It was like a studio apartment within the family home. His room was very modestly furnished but had all the essentials for a scholar who did not wish to disracted by mundane matters.

I can also recall a mushaira function in London many years ago where Mr. Zafar Chaudhry read out a very moving poem expressing the emotions of a woman in this world of contradictions and hypocrisy. I subsequently purchased his elder brother's house at 109 Kingston Hill where I lived with my family for 16 years. Mr. Chaudhry does not know me personaly but I have met him on various occasions in the company of Sir Zafrullah Khan and his brother eminent Anwar Kahloon sahib in London and Lahore.

I was unable to read other articles on your site due to some technical fault in your download mechanism or site. Please try to rectify this.  I Thank you for sending this article to me and I am curious as to how you came to know of my e-mail address.

Wish you all the best in your endeavours. Mahmood Malik
