Dear Ali, Your letter
and article about your dad and grandmother is quite touching.
I am fascinated with
your identities as a Marxist and a Mystic.
In my opinion every
human being has a separate identity....I....
which
is part of a WE...a family,
community and culture. It is like a drop of water that is part of an ocean,
For me separateness and togetherness are both important.
If we do not accept
every human being as separate we cannot make him or her responsible for
his/her actions.
We have evolved to the
point to realize that animals know but we as human beings know that we
know. that is why we can give unique meanings to
our experiences.
Being a psychiatrist
you know that a mentally healthy person has intact ego boundaries.
Those who lose ego
boundaries and have experiences of thought withdrawal, thought broadcasting
and thought insertion suffer from schizophrenia. How is a
mystic similar/ different than a psychotic is important. Who is
having a breakdown and who is having a breakthrough is important for me to
know.
That is why for a long
time i have been studying the psychology of a
poet, a psychotic and a mystic. I am sending you an article titled
PSYCHOLOGY OF
SPIRITUAL ENCOUNTERS
(it is long but I hope you enjoy it).It is
part of my next unpublished book titled
THE NEXT STAGE OF
HUMAN EVOLUTION
I think time has come
to have a dialogue between artists, mystics and psychologists to unravel
the mysteries of the mind.
Maybe you and I
consider writing a book together in the form of letters. what
do you think?
all the best...sohail
