Dear Sohail;
I will try and get you a copy of my mother's essays
about Faiz. If you have not read it, I would also
recommend 'Parvarish-e-Lauh-o-Qalam: Faiz, hayaat aur Takhleeqaat' by Ludmila Vassilyeva. The essay
I sent you about the All India Progressive Writer's Association is a
translation of one chapter of this book. It is available from Oxford
University Press Pakistan
but I happen to have an extra copy that I brought from Lahore.
If you would like to read it, please e-mail me
your mailing address and I will send it to you. I would also recommend
'Culture and Identity: Selected English Writings of Faiz'
available here in the US
from Barnes and Noble and other book sellers, I'm sure you can find it in Toronto,
too. It has some short essays by Faiz on the
tasks of writers, beauty and aesthetics, the functions of poetry and other
interesting themes.
My father told me just now that he has already bought a
copy of 'Samaaji Tabdeeli'
from Lahore and is enjoying
reading it.
Wassallaam,
Ali
