Naeem Sadiq needs to be
congratulated for his honest reflection on
Pakistan's abysmal record in protecting the
rights of religious minorities and women. It
is only through candid and profound
introspection that such a realization is
achieved. I concur with all he has stated
about Pakistan.
A while back I too
decided that my patriotism for the land of my
birth was misplaced. I decided that my loyalty
ought to be with the downtrodden, the weak,
the vulnerable and the impoverished rather
than to a political entity. If the political
entity fails to provide basic human rights to
the common man, or to the marginalized, then
it is no longer worthy of my respect.
Folks like Anis Zuberi
need to shun their tribal mentality of
constantly defending the indefensible actions
of radical Muslims or Pakistani governments.
They need to step out of their cocoon and
embrace humanity for a change!
