The seminar last night, March 23, 2007, about domestic violence
was very useful.
First of all, may I say that, after listening to Talat
Moin-Ud-Din, I found the accomplishments by Talat Moin-ud-Din,
remarkable. What a lady!
The documentary by Khalid Sohail is indeed very good, well made
and may be
an eye opener for the Pakistanis and Muslim community. But it
has been known
since many years that domestic violence is very prevalent in
Pakistani,
Muslim, and so many other communities, and is kept secret. Some
"prominent"
members of Pakistani community and the so called community
leaders have
indeed been state guests for a night or two because of this
activity. So,
domestic violence also exits in more than less affluent sectors.
I found panel discussion enlightening, and informative. All the
panel
members were focused, and knowledgeable. They spoke with
confidence, are
knowledgeable.
Indeed domestic violence is a problem international, universal,
and not just
confined to one or few communities, or few humans. Violence is
confined not
only to just humans, men or women. All species, humans, animals,
birds, fish
all exhibit some sort of violent behavior. As long as we refuse
to see this
point, as was done during the seminar by one panel member, and
another
outspoken member of the audience, when I raised this issue
during questions
session, we might find it not easy to find a solution. Different
diagnostics
need different treatments. If we fail to diagnose properly,
solution may be
not easy to find.
Thank you.
