 Evolution and Religion Seminar

Hello Friends,

This “novice” student of knowledge, who presumably, not (“followed the proceedings”) would like to comment on my, “subject expert on holonostic theory cum evolution”, friend Zain Fazal Sb.,. I would like to humbly submit the following after quoting his excerpts in blue. Parenthesis and underscores are mine.

Some others who (“followed the proceedings”) closely  felt that the seriousness of the issue was perhaps enhanced by the introduction of the holonostic theory by the speaker, and that it was not side tracked, as noted above by Mr. Saami.

Saying that Ken Wilbur, Deepak Chopra and other modern age thinkers are neo spiritualists and cultists is as(”novice”) a comment as calling all the great thinkers of the past half-baked or possessed intellectuals. It is to be noted that what may have been viewed as cults or a Neo spiritual movements yesterday are well-established philosophic or religious doctrines of today. This is the way of evolution and forward movement of human thought, and this is evident from the birth of newer and fresher ideas with the passage of time.

Since the Neo Cult Spiritualists like Ken Wilbur are mostly involved in corporate human motivation domain, I would like to remind that it is essential in corporate human behavior culture that one keeps the focus on the objective and context of an event and discussion.

The context of the discussion and the event, to this "neophyte" student, was Evolution and Religion. All the contemporary and historic discussions and debates on this subject have been on Darwin’s concept of Evolution that involves genetic mutation and natural selection.

The creationists, most of whom have religious conditioning oppose this because to them this interferes with the Dominion of God.

Between the lines context was also the perpetual debates in USA and elsewhere, where Darwinian Theory is debunked on religious ground, and of which the most recent examples have been the pressure on some US schools to either stop teaching Darwin or to put remarks on the books advising the students about alternative creationist point of view.

This was the reason why this novice believes that representatives of Three Abrahamic Religions were there to debate the introduction to Darwin and his theory by Dr. Khalid Sohail.

That is exactly why my friend Zia Sb’s presentation on Holonistic theory and declaration that Ken Wilbur is a great philosopher of our time, was out of place.

It may have provided some relevance if Zia Sb., contextualized his presentation with reference to GAIA Theory, James Lovelock, Margulis, and Arthur Koestler. Because  “holons” is a concept coined by Arthur Koestler. That would have brought the search of life on Mars by James Lovelock before us and would have provided a connection to the discussion on the floor.

Ken Wilber recognizes Koestler’ influence in his book Sex, Ecology, and Spirituality: the Spirit of Evolution. Any simple reader would understand the quackery that Ken Wilbur is applying here.

And this will explain as to why Neo Spiritualist Cultists are not the Thinkers that one wants them to be. It is because many a times their ideas are not original, and if the idea is not original, how should one expect that this should be accepted as “well-established philosophic or religious doctrine of today, or tomorrow?

Because Wilbur has relied on Koestler, let me close with a quote from Arthur Koestler :

"The progress of science is strewn, like an ancient desert trail, with the bleached skeleton of discarded theories which once seemed to possess eternal life."

I would like to also express that this is my last comment on this subject, because I do not have time for Holonistic Quackery, as some do not have time for Psychiatrist Quackery on a Darwinian discussion.
